Why joining…

ShareGrid is an instance of the OurGrid Community and represents an implementation of OurGrid middleware, an open source software completely free. You can download, install and use it following the directions from http://www.ourgrid.org/: as a consequence you will be part of OurGrid Community.

Similarly you can download-install-use the ShareGrid version of OurGrid and be connected to the ShareGrid Community (see How to submit jobs and How to share your lab pages).

But you will be asked to fill in some forms and therefore you will be entitled to benefit some extra assistance for your computing activities.

Advantages joining Sharegrid…

  • Application support for individual users/researcher/projects
  • TOP-IX seed (peer – user agents) always available whenever you will need it
  • P2P platform maintenance: the core peer and the technical relationships among participants
  • Platform evolution support: assessment & future deployments (eg OG4)

The cost is …

  • No cost is at the moment foreseen
  • The above project activities are funded by Regione Piemonte within the framework of TOP-IX’s Development Program (a consortium plan devoted to foster innovation activities and related business)
  • In fact, the costs of using the various computing resources of the laboratories are those foreseen by the managers of the laboratories according to the specific rules of each laboratory.
  • When the resources are shared, the payment consists in exchanging the use of the resources.
  • Everybody can use the TOP-IX’s computing resources at no cost because of Regione Piemonte’s funding

You are asked to…

  • actively interact with the working group <sharegrid[at]di.unito.it>
  • test the applications and the laboratory as a component of the entire system
  • help to keep the Community alive and growing: active participation to ShareGrid user meetings and initiatives
  • acknowledge ShareGrid while presenting your results: papers, meetings, etc

The author(s) acknowledge(s) the support graciously provided by the ShareGrid project and its management team, that donated a significant amount of computing power without which this research would not have been possible.
