ShareGrid is a Project funded by Regione Piemonte through TOPIX (TOrino Piemonte Internet eXchange), a non-profit consortium located in Torino providing interconnection exchange services and innovation Development Program business facilities to foster the use of wide-band Internet network and services, and in close co-operation with the Computer Science Department of Turin and Alessandria Universities
The management roles are:
- TOP-IX: general coordination and relationships with Regione Piemonte
- Computer Science Department, Università del Piemonte Orientale: technical and scientific coordination
- Computer Science Department, Università di Torino: application support and operational management
The funders
- Regione Piemonte within the framework of TOP-IX’s Development Program (a consortium plan devoted to foster innovation activities and related business)
The goal: implementation of a distributed computing platform
- facing the needs of users from universities and research labs: a) small laboratories with computing resources to be optimized and shared and b) individual researchers
- initially based on the regional wide-band network infrastructure
- following the implementation guides to be an instance of OurGrid middleware
- creating and keeping a computational Community collecting the resources of various small laboratories
